Timaru "Centre of the South Island"

A great place to start or finish your holiday in New Zealand on a high note. We are just a couple of hours south of Christchurch.
If you are looking for hoards of tourists and souvenir shops everywhere, don't come to Timaru, we are not that sort of town.
We are a regional city by the sea that relies on agriculture for our existence. You do not have to compete with buses and camper vans to find a car park in the centre of town.

Some people say it's very quiet in Timaru, we think it's "relaxed". This is heartland New Zealand with real New Zealanders.

We have great shopping, excellent restaurants, fine examples of Edwardian architecture and interesting places to visit.
Would you believe that we have six 18 hole golf courses within 15 minutes drive and the most you have to pay is $20 per round! Come and have a golfing holiday here.
Come and base yourself here for a few days, we are an easy 1 to 2 hour drive to Lake Tekapo and Mt Cook.
